Being a Hero in just one vally isn't enough for you, right ?
That's why you'll be going to the desert now !
The sequal to Quest for Glory 1, it's more of the same, with some graphical and gamewise improvements. First of all the gaming area is larger, there are more characters, more things to do. Although you'll have a hard time navigating the main city without a map, since the streets are like a giant hamster maze there, it's still nice to see they made it a bit more realistic when running through tunnels. |

This is a truly wonderful game with a nice storyline. The graphics are surprisingly detailed and innovative for its time. The storyline is so captivating that you will want to play the game with each different character, and you will come across interesting puzzles and hidden Easter eggs that will make your playing experience even more fun. Your quest is to be a Hero, known throughout all the lands of the world as the Hero of those places, after saving the last land you were in. Your friends have brought you here to save the desert land of Shapier.
Trial by Fire is the second installment in the Quest For Glory series, a total of 5 games in all. This game picks up immediately after Quest for Glory 1 left off, however, you do not need to play the first game in order to get the fullest out of Trial by Fire. The story will be recapped for you and you will still have a wonderful experience.
In this game, you will create your hero which will either be a Fighter, Magic User or Thief.
The Fighter uses Muscles and Might to solve problems and can easily tackle the toughest monsters with a sword. The Fighter will go though the game being able to fight or muscle his way through problems and tough out the damage he takes.
The Magic User has a whole arsenal of creative spells at his command, and uses magic and different combinations of spells to solve problems. Not as strong as the Fighter, the Magic User will often try and cast spells from a distance rather than fight up close.
The Thief will need to find crafty and creative ways to solve problems; it is not necessarily harder to play as the thief, but you will actually go to a lot of different scenes than the previous two go through. You may go in the back way of the final battle or see parts of Shapier never seen before as you try and find other ways to get cash.
The Story is about the Desert land of Shapier and it’s faraway twin city- Rasier. Rasier has been overthrown by a mysterious new leader – one who enforces law to the extreme and the city is under extreme prejudice.
You however, are safely in Shapier, but not for long. Within the first days of your adventure, Elemental beings made of Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth mysteriously appear and try to suck the lifeblood of the city. To defeat each Elemental, you have to learn about that element from the right person and use the counter-element in an innovative way to defeat it. As you defeat them you learn more and more about how they are linked to the Totalitarian city of Rasier.
There are also many Side-Stories which are very interesting, sad, or funny which also relate to your quest. A tree in the middle of the desert that is shaped almost exactly like a woman has a sad story, which will also relate to another story in the next game. A hideous monster trapped in a cage in the middle of hot desert begs for food and water, and it not as scary as it seems to be. The local beggar has a story to tell. The animal that you ride through the desert is not what it seems. Even the warrior woman Uhura who runs the Adventurer’s guild and her Liontaur friend Rakeesh would like to help you, and will become very good friends to you.
When you finally get to Raiser, it is a dark and ominous place, but your final quest begins and each different character type will go about it differently, through a completely awesome tightrope-walk sequence high above the city streets to a Hilarious sequence where you hide in a Harem full of beautiful women.
The Gameplay has something for everyone. You will get to fight monsters from a distance or up close and perform different moves depending on your character’s type and his skills. You will get to explore the beautiful city and try different foods and shop different stores. You will get to talk to many different characters, some hilarious, some uptight, and some very sad or scary. There is a very good balance between fighting, exploring, talking, and solving problems, so you will not get bored. It is parser based so you will have to type out commands like “Pick Lock” or “Cast Flame Dart”, but walking around, running, fighting, etc. are all with the mouse and arrow keys.
Finally, The Music: The Soundtrack to this game is by far the best I have ever heard. Each piece of music reflects the moments you play and when you listen to the soundtrack after you’ve beaten the game, you will have fond memories of your adventure. There are awesome blood-pumping battle songs, Heart-Moving sad songs, Cultural exploring songs, and of course, there are different songs for the different elements. My favorite song is Aziza’s theme – a very cool, relaxing water-like song, as well as the tree-woman Julanar’s theme – a sorrowful, moving piece which gets better the more you do to heal her.
Overall, a masterpiece. Play this game today, as well as the rest of the games in this series. You will not be disappointed. |
