Rome: Pathway to Power

Adventure Game (1990)
Download Rome: Pathway to Power
You're a Roman slave. Well actually, your character is. You've never seen anything more than the provincial town you're in. You feel prisoned, so logically, you will try to escape. That's your first mission, but it's a long way to Rome and in this game, you will see not all paths lead to Rome actually. Escape from that little town before the lava kills you and you will be saved... In the first mission, that is.

But actually, there's so much to say about this game, that I can only recommend playing it. Its graphics are very good for its time and the gameplay is pretty okay too. You have a lot of freedom to do whatever you like, but you are bound to some storyline restrictions, which makes this game fun and not too hard to play.

So it's definately a game I would recommend, especially if you like to play freeplay adventure games. Anyway, try it and you will see for yourself.

I remember this game. It came out the year I was born, 1990. I never got into it until I was about 6 or 7m, but I remember how many times I played it, failing or succeeding. I even learned how to glitch it so the guards could never arrest me. Good times.
The story is that you are a slave named Hector. Your complete motivation is your unyielding determination to become the emperor and remove Caesar from power. As you quite literally “steal” citizenship and stow away to Rome, you find yourself with a major problem, no money! Like every good immigrant, you need to find a way to get some, what better than taking part in the bouts in the coliseum. Go rent yourself a slave and pray to whatever of the many gods you worship for victory. If you succeed, you may find yourself in command of an army and take part in a couple completely entertaining military battles. Build forts, have your men rest and guard it, attack enemy camps and snatch victory from their cold, dead pixels! Deal with people trying to murder you or murder them back. In the end, achieve it all or die trying.
This is probably the best MS-DOS game I’ve ever played. The difficulties you had to go through, having a time limit constantly, the hard work you put through just to raise another notch of power, it’s all just entertaining to say the least.
In closing, I’d recommend this game to everyone to try. While some people may think it repetitive, you have so much free will that most games back in the day (and many now a days) don’t allow. I also urge that everyone who has played it back then to write a review about it just so you can enjoy the nostalgia and download it.
