Oregon Trail Deluxe

Educational Game (1992)
Download Oregon Trail Deluxe
Wow, I just finished playing the Oregon Trail Game. I remember playing this game for the first time back in 1996, when I was in the Fourth Grade. This game was to challenge our abilities to make decisions that would better someone else, and to help us think logically. Not only does the game help the child or children think logically, but it helps them focus on real life choices.
This game is about a family of five who set out to seek the rich and fertile lands or Oregon.
In order for them to get to Oregon, they must endure strenuous conditions with the weather, health, and supplies. In order for the family to make it to Oregon they have to trade goods, eat well, and survive the ever changing weather conditions.
I found this game to be easier now then it was 10 years ago because I am older and understand it more now. Ten years ago, I did not have a clue of what I was doing; the only part I really enjoyed was hunting.
I am quite sure any child who played this game then would only play for the fun of hunting.
The graphics of the game still engulfs me to this day. It brings me back to when those graphics were in style. Unlike the computer games of today, these graphics are one dimensional. It, however, still enthused and excited me to play it. Because the game is made for a MS-DOS computer, I did not have the luxury of having sound. But, I still enjoyed playing the game. I am quite sure there are many other games that is like this game, but I think this is a platinum hit game, one of a kind, if you know what I mean. There are more advanced Oregon Trail games that came out later on, but I believe this was one of the first ones to hit the market.
I would seriously recommend this game to gamers who enjoy vintage PC games, and enjoy a long ride down thinking lane. I feel if I really liked this game as a child in school, and still get goose bumps when I play it today, then I seriously think a "vintage" gamer would get a huge thrill out of it.
One last thing I would like to add before wrapping up this review is, keep this game in play. Spread the news to the new generation, get them involved in vintage play, these were the foundation of logic games for early PC gamers. So it is up to you to keep this game alive. "Think Smart, Play Smart."
