Road Rash

Racing Game (1996)
Download Road Rash
I began playing Road Rash probably when it first hit the market. Immediately I loved the game. It works best when used with a joystick. You play as several different characters, only two females to choose from however, and the graphics (although a bit dated) were excellent for the time. The game was a bit violent, you can punch, kick, whip, and other contestants, but that is the fun of it. I wish that there would have been more tracks and scenarios to race on, but alas you can't have everything.
All of the characters had a background personality and you could even update your bike. The options were cheap bikes (I forget what these were called), sports bikes, and super bikes. With the super bikes (what you ultimately wanted) you could use turbo charge boosts to go super fast. Beware though, the faster you allow yourself to go, the harder it is to steer and such. You were able to purchase these bikes by earning money from the races.

Overall, I found the game difficult at first. You can play using an outside controller or the mouse or the keyboard. I found that different people had different preferences, but I loved the joy stick. I thought the characters were very well done and the graphics good for the time. I wish that they had updated game, but there are no updates of the game that I know of. Sometimes there a lag in game play, you would turn the controller (or mouse, or keyboard) and the game would not notice it until a split second later. Although now, looking back, I could possible pin point this to our slower computer at the time.
The game allowed you to save your games and have multiple accounts. One thing that I wished the game had had was the opportunity to play against other individuals. Maybe it did, but it has been so long since I have played the game. You were only allowed to play against the computer, and this sometimes got a bit boring. Although difficult at first, once you knew how to play the game you began to learn how to play it well and then the game became just a bit too easy. However, I believe you could select levels that affected how easy or hard the game was.
Overall, this was a great game that I thoroughly enjoyed and I can't wait to play it again.
