It's rare to see succesfull crossover games so early ('88) that were actually good playable and fun, but FTA seems to succeed in it.
It's main hart is a somewhat simplified RPG game, but there are many adventure elements and search "quests" involved that it's just more then that.
Although there are better games out of this peroid, and certainly games with better graphics, FTA overrules them all in one thing : written word, story and gameplay.
Everything is so smashsolid, that you'll soon be sucked up and play night after night after night.
And hey, a couple of years back they released FTA 2, which was more of a
remake then a new game, |

Faery Tale Adventure for Amiga was one of the most memorable games in my childhood. Game play is an over head third person view of one of the three brothers you will play. The mouse stays in the action section of the screen which controls movement via eight point compass and action buttons which have hot keys trial and error or a manual will help. The original game had a built in logic test which required the map to solve to prevent unauthorized copies.
The graphics are horrible, but for 1986 it was equivalent to Resident evil 5 graphics now. If you want the first brother to survive I recommend guerilla tactics and snatch and grab corpses. Each kill raises stats. Most foes can attack through fences, but the wraiths move through everything.
What I really like about Faery tale is that you have to feed your character throughout the day which passes about 24 hours to an hour or so. The only places you can feed your character is in the inns or taverns in towns. There are several items of note needed to restore the amulet to Tamery village; five statuettes, seashell, golden lasso, a magic wand and some other items that are helpful in finding the others.
The most important items in the game are the multiple colors of keys you will find; Gold, red, green, grey, white, etc. Giving gold will increase your kindness. To increase your luck you need the seashell along the beach to the south east of Tamery. Then you can ride the turtle to an island with a sorceress, after you get the statue there talk to her again and again and your luck will increase. Some other world games with similar gameplay would be Ragnarok or the forgotten realms games like D&D for Sega Genesis. If you wish to explore your roots in gaming, I highly recommend this game. |
