Holiday Island

Simulation Game (1997)
Download Holiday Island
A great simcity look-a-like. The difference with this game and simcity is that this is about building the best holiday island. Insert facilities on you island and small houses, hotels and more. You can also build vehicle rent shops and more entertaining facilities like tennis courts and more. One of my favourite sims. The main idea is that you eventually have a big island with all kinds of holiday facilities and lots of visitors.

Make your island(s) the best and you make loads of money to improve it. A bit difficult and it needs lots of training, but one of the best games I've ever seen.

Graphics are great, sounds are ok, gameplay is good and the addictivity level was enormous in my opinion.

Developed by Sunflowers Interactive Entertainment Software GbmH, Holiday Island is a SimCity-esque type of game that focuses solely on an island that you, the user, are building up as a vacation resort. Holiday Island was published by Momico Entertainment Software and released for play on the Windows formats in the middle nineties. The game plays out from the isometric point of view and is strictly managerial in nature.

Similar to SimCity, in Holiday Island, the gamer will start out with an essentially blank slate. You will play the part of an entrepreneur who has been given both the right and the challenge to develop a virgin island into the greatest and most fun resort known to mankind. As you plan out your island, you will have over sixty different sorts of buildings to select from, ranging from theme hotels to rental facilities for beach equipment or cars. You will also be able to build structures that will provide different varieties of entertainment, such as discos, bars, and parks. Safety is a concern, and that is also your responsibility. All of these things will help to draw more clients to your island, but they also cost a lot to build and maintain, meaning you will have to make more money to pay for them all in turn.

Unlike SimCity, where you are essentially playing against yourself and trying to please your own people, Holiday Island offers several rivals who all have the same general goals as you do. Therefore, there is a bit of a time crush as you try to make your island a bigger draw and establish some clients before your competition takes them all. There are other avenues to ensure that your business does better than the competition, but those routes are not always so nice and honest. You are actually able to play some dirty tricks on them to inhibit their progress.

Holiday Island offers a smooth interface that is easy to learn, despite the plethora of information it contains. It has great attention to detail and a realistic model for the business aspect of the game. Although it is easy to learn, it is not so easy to master, since it does contain so many facets. It will definitely provide a challenge for the fan of the classic simulation or management style game. SimCity fans are encouraged to apply at Holiday Island.
