Fjew, one hell of a strategy/simulation game. This one has never been 100% clear to me, but I'll try to explain what this game is about.
You become the new owner of a TV station, you'll have to buy movies, arrange advertisers, make sure that the news is up-to-date and you have to make a girl fall in love with you :S
There's nothing to tell really, except that this game is really hard and it will cost a few hours before you will be fast enough to see what you have to do and get the point of this game, really.
There is a Mad TV 2, but it's only released in German. |

Mad TV was for a me, a surprise find. I love simulation games and this one absolutely blew me away! I found it by chance on the website and decided to check it out. Initially I was very confused and by writing this review I hope I can help those of you who are looking at giving this game a shot!
The introduction shows you watching TV, or rather sleeping in front of it, when a woman named Betty come on the screen. Struck by love you take off to the TV station to profess your undying love for her. At the same time someone from the TV station is being (ahem) relieved from his position there with a shift kick out the window! Luckily for you, or unlucky, however you look at it you are in the right place at the right time and are given a job at MAD TV.
Then the game starts and you can choose which color and station you are. Personally I have always gone for the red. I would suggest trying out all 3 as each offers a different floor and allows easier access to certain faculties. But we'll come to this in a moment.
Once the game starts, whomever you choose, you reach the elevator first in the morning and pop into your boss to have a chat. Once this is done you are on your own. Your boss may give you a goal to achieve but until you are more familiar with the game I wouldn't worry about this too much.
First things first, you have four rooms at your disposal. The rooms are marked with your color of choice. 1 is your office, next is your news room where you can decide what news to show for the day, next is your boss' office and finally your library where all your films and TV shows are stored. In your office you decide what shows to show. When you click on your computer it shows the slots where you can fit your selection of shows and movies. You also need to fit in commercials to make money. The commercials are located in the advertising agency which can be found on the directory. Remember that to read the conditions of a commercial very closely before you choose it! It may end up costing you more money then you could have earned.
You can also purchase new movies and TV shows in the movie agency. Using the elevator will indicate where these locations are. You may notice that on certain days there is a news report about someone going after Duban. Pay close attention to these warnings. You will notice that someone will have changed around the information on the information board which is located on the ground floor. They are attempting to sabotage you!
The thing to end the game is making Betty fall in love with you. Buying her gifts at the supermarket is all well and good, but if she doesn’t think anything of you to begin with, she will barely notice the expensive gifts!
There is a lot to learn in this game and I still find things that I hadn’t seen before. A couple of hints to finish off:
Always try to have at least one day of programming prepared in advance. If you have a crisis or bombing to deal with, having the programming done will buy you some time.
When you have enough money, (or you’re lucky enough to have it in your initial inventory) make sure to show Betty’s Culture Show every day! She falls in love with you a lot quicker if you do!
Talk to the concierge guy on the ground floor. He may sometimes have information for you.
Like I said before, there is a lot to discover. Take your time and don’t be surprised if you fail the first few times. |
