Motor City

Simulation Game ()

This is one of my personal favourites! The game idea is a bit like Detroit, but this one is way more complicated and way more advanced than the game Detroit.

You own a company, a car factory. Your goal is to build cars that everyone wants so you can make lots of money out it. What you first have is an almost empty lot, with an administration building and a warehouse.

A train track is leading straight through the middle. Build things like a research department, a factory or a storage place. You climb your way up from the most simple 1-cilinder 5 HP cars to the most luxury limousines. Become the greatest car factory in the world.

What makes this game different from Detroit? Well, that's not a hard question. This game is in many ways different from Detroit, because this game is much more detailed. Detroit is not as realistic as this game. In this game you're in total control of everything.

Motor City is a management style simulation game that was both published and produced by Max Design GesMBH. It was launched into the public in the middle nineties, and is similar to the game, Detroit, except it allows the user to break into the automobile market in Europe at the tale end of the nineteenth century instead of relying on American made cars. It is actually the last game released by Max Design under their own label, and Max apparently gave this one their all. It is a very challenging business simulation and is deigned for single player play against the computer, or with two competitors in hot seat style of play.

The nature of the game, the auto industry, in itself is a challenging concept. There is a lot to do in the production of a car, ranging from the earliest market research to selling the finished product. You will be in charge of start, finish and everything in between in Motor City. You will control the research and administration, the production halls, marketing and advertising, building, and even racing. You will have to set forth a very gallant effort in order to stay in front of your competition and avoid going bankrupt in the process, very much like what modern day car companies were unable to do.

The beginning of the game is very rudimentary and you will have to select a player name and title your company. The most important decision you will make, however, is where your company will be based. Motor City actually contains many historical elements, and your company will be affected by things such as war, social unrest, climate and economy relevant to the area in which you are located. You will be able to select from three levels of difficulty in this section of the game. The game begins in your office, and truly, that is where you will spend the majority of your time, poring over statistics and business models, doing market research and making the decisions that will affect your company’s future. Stepping out of your office takes you to the staff offices where you can hire and fire employees and also check out the statistics of how they are performing.

Overall, Motor City really offers a lot of information to take in and process. It is a very detail oriented game and will require a lot of micromanagement. This is a great play for the wannabe businessman.
