| Being one of the most simple games I have ever seen, doesn't mean that it's a bad game. And this game proves it... It's simple, you ski down a hill and you search for a game's start point. When you get there, just follow the red and blue flags and you'll get there. There are many obstacles in your way and you can be eaten by a very simple drawn "giant snowman", which made me rolling on the ground of laughing, really. |

It's simple, it's easy, but I can also tell you that this one is a must have. Just to play one time and never see again, it's great!
And hey, we're still talking about the "wingames" series on this site, so don't expect too much of any game. |

For some people the sport of skiing is the epitome of extreme sports, for others it is a relaxing way to spend a day at the otherwise dangerous snow resorts but for others who would rather not risk their lives for a spot of skiing there is Skifree.
Skifree features 3 game modes. A freestyle mode is which players score points by pulling of stylish moves off of the various ramps on the mountains, a normal Slalom and Tree slalom. Both of the slalom modes involve the player skiing down the mountain while navigating through the various signs and directional arrows. The main difference between these two modes is as the name suggest lies within the inclusion of trees that when hit stop you and ultimately make the game a more difficult experience for the player. Skifree is a game that rewards the players time that he or she puts into the game because as the player plays more he or she will be able to take more from it in terms of playability and replay value.
While navigating through the various post and signs are both rewarding and tedious it is entirely optional as the player can choose to ski freely down the mountain as they wish. This gives the player time to practice(which if the player wishes to become good at this game is a necessity) or simply explore the vast slopes if the slalom becomes boring and freestyle modes become boring which overtime is likely to happen. Due to the fact that there are very few skiing games on the market it is hard to compare this game to others but due its vast areas, multiple game modes and sheer entertainment value I think that at the time of its original release Skifree was the pinnacle of great skiing games.
Although Skifree succeeds in being a fun skiing game it is safe to say that it is far from a simulation which is good because it never really tries to be and is a better game for it. This can be seen in the exaggerated tricks, ability to stop from a breakneck speed and the looming threat that a very hungry abominable snowman poses should the player reach the bottom of the mountain.
Skifree is one of my earliest memories of computers and one that remains to this day a very fond one. So with all these things in mind I strongly recommend that after reading this review you download this game. |
